Product Information
Aeroqual Ammonia (NH₃) Module
The Aeroqual NH₃ module measures ammonia concentrations for environmental monitoring projects, helping teams assess changes around potential emission sources. Ammonia is associated with fertilizer production, livestock operations and a range of industrial processes. This module is ideal for applications requiring sensitive detection of low-level ammonia, including environmental monitoring, perimeter air quality, and community impact assessments.
Ammonia gas is a colorless, toxic gas (NH₃) with a strong, pungent smell, used widely in industry for fertilizers, plastics, and chemicals, and in households for cleaning products. It’s heavier than air, irritates and can damage skin, eyes, and lungs upon contact, and can be fatal at high concentrations. While non-flammable, it can become explosive when mixed with air, and its widespread use as a fertilizer and potential fuel source raises environmental concerns about greenhouse gases and acid rain.
Ammonia is commonly used in the agricultural industry as a fertilizer to help increase crop yield. Ammonia emissions are also a byproduct of animal waste in livestock and poultry applications. Some manufacturing processes use ammonia, such as in the production of plastics, textiles, and pesticides, as well as in the fermentation industry and as an antimicrobial agent. It is also found in many household and industrial strength cleaning products.
Ammonia is a toxic gas that can cause burning in the respiratory tract when inhaled. Those most at risk of excess inhalation are workers whose industries use ammonia.

Performance & Field Data
The published detection limit is 0.05 ppm, equivalent to 50 ppb. Match this capability to your expected concentrations and reporting requirements, and review the proposed monitor configuration and field conditions with Specto before selecting the module.
Performance depends on the monitoring configuration, calibration, site conditions and measurement objectives.
Typical Applications
- Agricultural and livestock-related ammonia assessments
- Fertilizer and chemical manufacturing perimeters
- Environmental investigations around ammonia sources
- Application suitability depends on the confirmed system configuration.
