Product Information
Benzene is a hazardous air pollutant associated with fuel handling, vehicle exhaust, oil and gas operations, and industrial processes. Aeroqual’s AQS 1 Benzene Modules provide continuous, selective benzene measurements for ambient and perimeter air quality monitoring. Available in low- and high-range configurations, the modules help teams measure benzene concentrations across different environmental and industrial applications.
Product Features
The Aeroqual Benzene Modules use temperature-programmed desorption (TPD) with photoionization detection (PID) to measure benzene selectively, reducing interference from other hydrocarbons. Both configurations provide a new measurement every 15 minutes and integrate with the Aeroqual AQS 1 outdoor air quality monitoring system.

Integrated with Aeroqual monitoring software, the AQS 1 Benzene system supports remote data access, configurable alerts, reporting and visualization alongside meteorological data. Its low-power design also supports battery- and solar-powered perimeter monitoring configurations.
Performance & Field Data
In Aeroqual’s reported two-month field comparison, two low-range benzene modules installed in an AQS 1 were co-located with an automatic gas chromatograph near a refinery in Southern California.
The modules achieved R² values of 0.93 and 0.89, with mean absolute errors (MAE) of 0.10 and 0.13 ppb, respectively. These results demonstrate the low-range module’s performance under the conditions of that field evaluation.
The high-range module extends measurement capability to 10 ppm for applications where higher benzene concentrations are expected.
The field comparison results above apply specifically to the low-range module.
Results shown are from the specific manufacturer-reported evaluation described. Performance depends on monitoring configuration, calibration, site conditions and measurement objectives.
Typical Applications
Low Range (0–100 ppb)
- Oil and gas facility fenceline monitoring
- Ambient and community air quality monitoring
- Fuel-related remediation and industrial perimeter monitoring
High Range (0–10 ppm)
- Industrial sites with potentially elevated benzene concentrations
- Petrochemical and chemical processing facilities
- Near-source benzene monitoring during remediation and industrial activities
