A Brief History
We’ve been at it since 2013, and we’ve only just begun.
When our founders, Dr. Hai-Tien Yu and Edmund Kirby set out in 2013, they recognized the industry need for a knowledgeable, reliable partner who could develop turnkey technological solutions that solved the prevailing need for Geotechnical, Structural and Environmental monitoring. So, they put their heads – and their 50 years of collective experience in the industry – together and set forth to become that partner.

Dr. Hai is responsible for guiding the company’s technical and strategic direction. This includes everything from product R&D to providing high end technical support. With more than 40 years’ experience in the instrumentation industry with consultants, manufacturers and contractors, he has played key roles in the instrumentation and monitoring components of many major projects across the world. He is highly respected in the industry and his wealth of technical knowledge has allowed solutions to instrumentation problems to be reached, time after time.
Ed leads Specto’s operations and sets the company’s strategic direction, fostering a collaborative culture where the team works together to deliver unmatched expertise, fast response times, and exceptional customer service. With more than 25 years of experience in geotechnical engineering and instrumentation—including several years managing high-profile projects in New York City—Ed brings both technical insight and practical know-how to every challenge.
Tyree oversees the company’s sales operations and build new relationships through business development. His years of experience in project management and geotechnical instrumentation were gained working on major instrumentation projects in New York City.
Mick oversees the technical and business development operations for our environmental monitoring team. He has over 10 years’ experience in environmental consulting and delivering innovative solutions to the construction, remediation, mining, manufacturing and waste industries.
Eric oversees the company’s technical operations as well as playing a key role in the R&D of new solutions. He has over 10 years’ experience in the development of new monitoring solutions and providing leading engineering and technical support. This knowledge allows Eric to continually develop our world-class technical support services by aligning best practices and methodologies to ensure unsurpassed service and support for Specto’s client base.
Ra runs point in the warehouse to ensure that Specto’s high quality solutions are delivered in short order. From custom monitoring solutions to expedited rentals – Ra has it covered.
Chris works with our technical team to design and perform QA on our wireless monitoring systems. His years of experience working in the field comes in handy when comes up with sleek, practical, cutting-edge system designs to ensure our customers get their monitoring projects up and running quickly. If you’re in the market for a bullet-proof, fully automated monitoring system, Chris will sort you out!
Rijo works with our technical team to provide remote support for our wireless monitoring systems. His experience working with monitoring software platforms helps to ensure our customers get high-level, prompt support.
Paul looks after all things financial at Specto. His extensive accounting experience with a variety of companies allows him to keep Specto’s financial engine running smoothly.
James works with our technical team to build and maintain our wireless environmental monitoring systems. His years of experience working in the environmental field comes in handy when he provides practical remote support to ensure our customers they get their monitoring projects up and running quickly.
Tekarra keeps the accounting machine humming by taking care of our day-to-day financial operations. Her years of experience working in the accounting field allows her to provide prompt, accurate information to our customers and vendors.
Mark works with our technical team to ensure that when a customer has a question, they get an answer. His extensive experience in the instrumentation and monitoring field allows him to understand and empathize with our customers’ needs to ensure we solve any issues.
Andrew works with our environmental sales team to ensure our customers are offered monitoring solutions to save them time and money. His experience in the field as an environmental consultant allows him to educate customers about systems that are both practical and effective.
Reuel heads up our environmental production crew to build the full range of customized air quality and noise monitoring systems we offer. His extensive experience in warehouse and production environments shines through when it comes to cranking out sleek, effective solutions.
