A Brief History

We’ve been at it since 2013, and we’ve only just begun.

When our founders, Dr. Hai-Tien Yu and Edmund Kirby set out in 2013, they recognized the industry need for a knowledgeable, reliable partner who could develop turnkey technological solutions that solved the prevailing need for Geotechnical, Structural and Environmental monitoring. So, they put their heads – and their 50 years of collective experience in the industry – together and set forth to become that partner.

Today, we have grown into a trusted partner for hundreds of clients around the globe, providing world-class solutions that leverage the most advanced wireless technologies on the market. Hai-Tien Yu
Co-Founder, President & CTO

Dr. Hai is responsible for guiding the company’s technical and strategic direction. This includes everything from product R&D to providing high end technical support. With more than 40 years’ experience in the instrumentation industry with consultants, manufacturers and contractors, he has played key roles in the instrumentation and monitoring components of many major projects across the world. He is highly respected in the industry and his wealth of technical knowledge has allowed solutions to instrumentation problems to be reached, time after time.

If you need to solve a difficult monitoring problem, just ask Hai – he has probably seen it (and solved it) before!

Edmund Kirby
Co-Founder & CEO

Ed manages the company’s operations as well as setting Specto’s strategic direction. He oversees daily operations to ensure that the solutions and support provided are unparalleled in terms of the depth of knowledge, dedication to exceptional customer service and response times. He has more than 15 years of experience in geotechnical engineering and instrumentation, which includes several years in New York City as an instrumentation project manager on some of the highest profile projects in the city.

Tyree Williams
Director of Instrumentation Sales & Business Development, Vice President

Tyree oversees the company’s sales operations and build new relationships through business development. His years of experience in project management and geotechnical instrumentation were gained working on major instrumentation projects in New York City.

Eric Boucher
Technical Director, Vice President

Eric oversees the company’s technical operations as well as playing a key role in the R&D of new solutions. He has over 10 years’ experience in the development of new monitoring solutions and providing leading engineering and technical support.  This knowledge allows Eric to continually develop our world-class technical support services by aligning best practices and methodologies to ensure unsurpassed service and support for Specto’s client base.

Joana works closely with every company department to organize day-to-day operations that include order processing, logistics coordination and facilitation of our technical training sessions. She has over 15 years’ experience in a variety of operations and office management positions at a range of companies.
